What is HD liposculpture?
Conventional liposuction removes fat: it slims an area. High-definition liposculpture does something different — it works the fat in layers, superficial and deep, to reveal the anatomical grooves that already exist beneath the skin: the linea alba of the abdomen, the insertions of the rectus, the border of the oblique, the costal arch, the inguinal V. Rather than emptying a volume, it sculpts a relief.
Hence the practical difference: conventional liposuction leaves you slimmer; HD liposculpture leaves you more defined. They are different goals, chosen at the assessment according to what the patient actually wants and what their anatomy permits.
The honest limit of HD liposculpture
This needs saying before anything else, because it is what the patient will not read in anyone’s advertising: HD liposculpture reveals muscle, it does not manufacture it. The grooves it marks are the ones drawn by your own musculature beneath the fat. If that musculature is not developed, there is nothing to reveal — and the result will be a flat, clean abdomen, which is a good result, but it will not be a defined one.
That is why the ideal HD candidate is not the one with the most fat: it is the one who already trains and cannot get it to show. And that is why the honest answer to some patients at consultation is to propose a conventional liposuction, or to ask for a few months of prior work, rather than sell them a definition their anatomy will not sustain.
Techniques used by Dr. Arístides Arellano

- VASER (ultrasound): ultrasound energy selectively liquefies fat before removal, sparing vessels and connective tissue to a greater degree. - Fat transfer: harvested fat is purified and re-injected to add volume and proportion where needed —buttocks, pectoral, shoulders. Subtracting in one place and adding in another is what creates a silhouette; subtracting only, flattens it.
- Individual marking: the design is drawn on the patient’s own body, standing and contracted, before entering the operating room. There is no template: every abdomen has its own grooves and its own asymmetry.

How is it performed?
Surgery is performed under general anaesthesia or sedation, in a hospital operating room, and lasts approximately 2 to 4 hours depending on the number of areas. Who is a good candidate?
- Weight close to ideal. HD liposculpture is not a weight-loss method and does not replace diet or exercise: it is a contouring procedure.
- Developed musculature. This is the requirement that defines the result — with no muscle underneath, there is no relief to reveal.
- Skin with good elasticity. If the skin will not retract, the definition will not hold, and in that case a tummy tuck —which removes the excess skin— or a combination of both may be what is indicated.
- Localized fat resistant to diet and exercise.
- Stable weight and good general health.
- Realistic expectations and willingness to maintain the result: the fat cells removed do not return, but the ones that remain do grow if weight rises. Liposculpture does not cancel habits.
