What is hair exosome therapy?
Hair exosomes are microscopic extracellular vesicles that carry growth factors, proteins and cell-signalling material. Applied to the scalp, their aim is to stimulate the hair follicle, improve local microcirculation and support the growth phase of the hair (anagen). - Diagnosis first. Before anything is applied, the scalp is studied —including HairMetrix digital trichoscopy— to measure density, miniaturisation and the pattern of loss. No diagnosis, no indication.
- Scalp application. Exosomes are delivered by microinjections (mesotherapy) or with microneedling over the area to be treated, as an outpatient procedure and in a series of sessions.
- Integration with the rest of the programme. When indicated, they are combined with medical treatment and, if loss is already advanced, with a hair transplant —the clinic has the ARTAS iX robotic system—. Dr. Arístides is an ISHRS member.
How is it performed?
The session is performed in the office and lasts roughly 30 to 60 minutes. Does it replace minoxidil, finasteride or a transplant?
No. Exosomes are a support, not a replacement. Minoxidil and finasteride have proven efficacy in androgenetic alopecia, and a transplant is the solution when loss is already advanced. Exosomes are best used as a complement within a properly indicated hair programme.
