How much does ear surgery cost in Mexico?

What does the surgery actually correct?

It rebuilds a fold that never formed. In most prominent ears the antihelix — the natural fold of the cartilage — is missing, or the concha is too deep, and that projects the ear outwards. It is corrected by reshaping and fixing the cartilage from behind, not by cutting skin at the front.

Large or protruding ears: reduction or repositioning?

They are two different problems, and it is worth knowing which is yours before asking for an estimate. A protruding ear is of normal size and badly oriented: it is repositioned closer to the head. A large ear has genuine excess cartilage and skin, and reducing it means removing tissue — a different, more laborious operation, usually done in the same session.

Many cases are both at once, which is why the assessment measures the ear: its height, its width and its distance from the skull. The plan comes from those measurements, and so does whether the published figure applies as it stands.

Otoplasty in children: at what age

It is usually considered once the ear has reached close to adult size, which happens around five or six years old. That is not a fixed rule: the decision is individual and is made by assessing the child, not by the calendar.

Two honest considerations. In young children the surgery usually requires general anaesthesia, which can change where it is performed and therefore the estimate. And it helps that the child understands and wants the change: an otoplasty done solely on the parents’ wish is a conversation worth having at the assessment.
